Wednesday, July 17 – The Hague and Amsterdam

Jessica’s 14th birthday.
We visited another miniature town.  This one is bigger and more impressive than the one at Middleburg, and has several animations making it pretty special and interesting.  Lunch was on the waterfront.

After that visit we went to a candle factory and made candles.  The process was to hand dip the wick in wax, wait 1-minute, quick dip in cold water. Repeat until desired size.  Then twist and 50 dips on cold water.  Josh was interested in the process but bored by the actual doing.

We then drove to the Amsterdam area and found a B&B just outside of town in Zaandam.

We took the train in to Amsterdam for Jessica’s birthday dinner.  The train station is not in the best part of town, but we found a nice steak house a few blocks away.  The train station had a lot of hippies around it, lots of chalk art on the plaza.  Jessica was intrigued.  (Amsterdam seems to have a bit of the Haight Ashbury 1960's vib.)
